The autoclave is used to sterilize the surgeons operating instruments for surgery. Without it we are limited in the number of patients we can accommodate and the number of cases we can schedule for the week.
The hospital has a total of 3, 2 smaller ones pictured above and the large one we are attempting to fix. It has been out of commission the past several years and if it can be fixed it will mean we can add an additional operating room thus increasing the number of surgeries.
Really a coordinated effort on both sides. Peter & Helareo (Juan Bosch Bio-Med) worked side by side to remove the old corroded elements and replace them with new ones purchased by generous donations through the Operation Walk - Freedom to Move Auction held in September. This a great example of donations at work.
At the end of the day it was up and running but there seemed to be a part still missing to get the doors to function correctly. This we will get Monday so keep your fingers crossed and we'll keep you posted as we make progress!!!
