Important Update: 2024 Mission Trip Delayed – Plans for Future Operations and Get-Together
Dear OpWalk FTM Friends and Family,
I hope this email finds each of you happy, healthy, and well! It has been a long time since we have all been together. I know many of you have moved on to other jobs in various locations, and some of you have always lived in different parts of the country. What binds our group together is our shared passion and desire to help those in need of the services we provide so capably. Thank you for who you are, and for your ongoing willingness to contribute!
We regret to inform you that our Executive Board has once again had to make the difficult decision to delay our return to the DR. This unfortunate decision to skip our 2024 trip arises from the inability to obtain implants, along with other gaps in the supply chain for the necessary goods and equipment. Securing all of the required supplies is a monumental and expensive task, and as we've often said, "no implants, no mission." In this case, it involves implants and other supplies; we simply cannot proceed safely without having all the right equipment, supplies, and implants.
Ours is a complex mission with many moving parts and significant supply requirements. If any of our implants or supplies are unavailable, this compromises the integrity of our mission, and we simply cannot and will not risk or compromise the excellent outcomes that our processes have ensured for each patient. We have been wildly successful thus far, and deviating from our established process would be unacceptable.
I would like to add that, beginning early next year, we are planning on having regular Board Meetings to prepare for the 2025 trip, and we are scheduling a team get-together in Q1 2024 to regroup. We remain committed to proceeding with our mission trip once we can do so without compromise. These are substantial operations, as you all know, and the safety of our patients must always come first.
Thank you all for your willingness, commitment, and dedication to our cause! Enjoy your summer, stay healthy, and keep in touch!
Best regards,
Pat Williams

CEO Operation Walk, Freedom to Move
Operation Walk is a private, not-for-profit, volunteer medical services organization which provides free surgical treatment for patients in developing countries (and occasionally in the US), that have no access to life-improving care for arthritis or other debilitating bone and joint conditions. Operation Walk also educates in-country orthopedic surgeons, nurses, physical therapists and other healthcare professionals on the most advanced treatments and surgical techniques for diseases of the hip and knee joints. This is done in conjunction with surgeries to help create a lasting contribution to patient care in developing countries.
Operation Walk freedom To Move consists of doctors & volunteers who travel to developing countries to provide orthopedic surgery to patients and train local medical personnel to perform them long after we have gone.
